Good evening Ken,
Thank you for writing back.
Our apologies for the staging server glitch. This is most likely caused by what is described under the "important notes" section from https://support.theeventscalendar.com/329824-Promoter-Beta-Setup-Guide-
I assume because it tried to send through my production site which doesn't have the beta plug in but rather the latest production plug in installed. Not sure there is any good way for me to test this then since I don't want to put this on my production site.
That is correct. For now, only the beta plugins will work. The solution would be to use a staging site that does not have "staging" in its name (we will certainly improve on that for next Beta).
1) If I want to PROMOTE an event I probably want to send emails to people who are not attending or not yet attending, hence promoting the event to them to try and get them to sign up. I saw no way to do this. Would be nice to be able to pull in my site member list or member groups, or load up an xls file of people to email to, etc.
That is totally something that we will add as a feature (as well as others). But thank you for that thought!
2) No confirmation that email was sent and who it was sent to, maybe because my email didn't end up going out I didn't see anything, but if it works I would want to see a verification that the emails were in fact sent and to whom they were sent to so I don't spam people.
When a message is sent by Promoter and a valid Audience was selected, the status changes to "Sent". Furthermore, each message clearly displays what the audience for it was.
3) Which begs the question can people opt out of receiving promoter emails about events when they sign up for an event to attend or after they receive their first email?
That is another great question. At this point (while working on the beta), the feature is not there.
But that is absolutely something we take seriously.
Therefore, you can expect this to find it's way for the release :-)
